Middle Years Electives

Dear Decatur Families,

Stephen Decatur Elementary continues to offer our exciting elective program for 7th & 8th Grade students for the 2021-2022 school year!

Our electives program provides a variety of dynamic course offerings in all areas of the curriculum. Elective courses are curriculum-linked to enrich the school’s academic program according to Decatur’s mission. Decatur specialists teach electives and maintain a high quality of instruction, as it is an inclusive and important component of our curriculum.

The elective schedule rotates each quarter. Therefore, over the course of the year, 7th & 8th grade students may take a total of four elective courses. Each class will consist of a mixture of 7th & 8th grade students. Selecting courses, fulfilling requirements, and following through with elective choices are important steps in personal responsibility, as well as great preparation for high-school classes and activities. The Code of Conduct and The Decatur Decrees – Respectful, Responsible, and Safe – are to be followed in all elective courses.

At this time, students are asked to rank the electives in order of preference. Administrators and teachers will do their best to assign students to the electives that they have chosen as their top three choices; however, 8th graders will receive first preference.

Students must return the Elective Preference Forms no later than Friday, March 25th. You are not guaranteed your first three choices. Students who do not fill out and return their forms will be automatically placed in an elective for the quarter. Please keep in mind, once assigned to an elective, students may not withdraw until the end of the quarter.

We look forward to working with your children! If there are any questions and/or concerns regarding these electives, please contact the school office at 215-400-3050.

Sincerely,

Stephen Decatur Specialists
